Helping students understand Economics with confidence

I'm Richard Clark, an A Level Economics tutor based in Wiltshire. With a BA in Economics, a PGCE and an MSc in Economics, I've spent my career teaching and applying Economics in education, government and business.

Today, I combine that experience to help students understand not just what happens in Economics, but why it happens.

Why I teach Economics

After graduating from the University of Warwick with a BA in Economics and completing my PGCE, I began my career teaching Economics in both the state and independent sectors, including Westminster School. During this time, I also completed an MSc in Economics at the University of York, deepening my understanding of the subject while continuing to teach.

Wanting to apply Economics beyond the classroom, I moved into professional economics and econometrics. My career included roles at Transport for London, where I communicated economic analysis to local authorities and other stakeholders; J. Walter Thompson, one of the world's largest advertising agencies, where I worked as an econometrician; and IWS, an Australian government-funded organisation, where I worked as an economic analyst.

I later founded and grew my own market research consultancy, spending more than 25 years helping organisations understand people, markets and decision-making. Over the years I worked with clients including the Scottish Government, Welsh Government, L'Oréal, Diageo and Unilever, designing research, interpreting evidence and helping organisations make better decisions. I also delivered professional training, helping clients develop their understanding of research methods, data interpretation and evidence-based decision-making.

Today, I've chosen to combine everything I've learned throughout my career. My teaching draws on academic study, classroom experience and decades of applying Economics in government, business and consultancy.

I believe students achieve their best results when they understand not just what happens in Economics, but why it happens. By combining clear explanations, real-world examples and strong exam technique, my aim is to make Economics more engaging, more memorable and easier to apply in examinations.

Every student is different.

Some need help understanding difficult concepts.

I aim to provide:

  • Clear, straightforward explanations.

  • Real-world examples that bring Economics to life.

Outside the classroom

I live near Marlborough in Wiltshire with my wife Sarah.

Outside tutoring I enjoy following economics, financial markets and current affairs. I also enjoy spending time with my family and exploring the Wiltshire countryside.

Keeping up with economic news means I can regularly bring fresh, relevant examples into lessons, helping students connect classroom theory with events happening around the world.
